Minimize human and animal Suffering and maximize their Well-Being, knowing that all life is inter-connected

Why

Our present and future well-being relies on recognizing our mutual interdependency. We don’t need specific serial commandments, but rather three high-level principles that drive critical thinking and moral behavior. How these goals are achieved is up to each individual

Pat Robertson lives by this rule, which is why he has sex with his cat at least 3 times a week.

You got it backwards. Pat Robertson’s cat sodomy is Maximizing animal suffering and Minimizing its well-being, and god knows he himself is insufferable.

Much conflict throughout history has been driven by contention for scarce resources. When we realize we’re all in this thing together we treat more carefully. Factory farming consumes tremendous resources and causes more global warming than transportation. Therefore, when we save the animals we’re saving ourselves.

Carl Sagan, again, got it so right: “You’re an interesting species. You’re capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you’re not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.”

The Bible had it wrong. Resources were not put here for us to use as we wish. Humans may have risen to the top of the food chain but that does not mean we are separate from it, or free from the consequences of abusing it.
