Humanity's Goals

At one time Humanity did not know it was on a marble floating around the sun in a vast universe. Humanity knows that now (to a scientifically acceptable extent) and can better affect its future because of it. -------- How much more will Humanity be able to affect its course when it knows what lies beyond the edges of the universe we've detected? Maybe it won't be better off... maybe it'll be worse off... but I'd rather know. -------- If Humanity wants to know what lies beyond those detected edges of the universe and what occurs at the most quantum levels of the universe, then it must focus the maximum of its efforts on those inconceivably long and difficult tasks. -------- Having the stated mission of learning as much about the physical universe as possible is a powerful thing. Mission type orders have trickle down effects that give value to the most mundane of daily efforts and coordinate people in unforeseen ways. Simply saying "as much as possible" implies that we must put effort toward maximizing our habitable environments (i.e. maximize Earth's shelf life for us and seek out other planets a la Interstellar), that we must put effort toward maximizing education, toward minimizing suffering, toward maintaining our sanity thru arts, entertainment and adventure. It takes a village and in this case a planet just to have a fighting chance of getting answers. -------- If we want Humanity (even 10,000 yrs from now) to be able to have even the remotest chance of answering the most daunting questions about the universe we inhabit, then we have to make getting those answers our primary mission right now. -------- The condition in the second half of the mission statement that individual rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness should be maintained is necessary to avoid using people as fodder for accomplishing the first half of the mission statement. Not a small statement at all but secondary to the overall point here. -------- https://www.facebook.com/goalsofhumanity -------- https://twitter.com/GoalsOfHumanity -------- New Bern , NC

MY BELIEFS

2 critical pts. 1-As Humanity's gained knowledge, it's been better able to affect its future. Learning as much as possible will permit us to know how to best live. 2-Having goal demands other goals (e.g. max our survival) & gives direction to lives (e.g. farmer provides support).
The original phrase in The Declaration of Independence still drives decision-making of individual lives today. Including "scientifically verifiable knowledge" can set the tone for future generations' decision-making based on reason and reality. Happiness is implied thru liberty.
To decide how to live, we must know where we want to go. Humanity lacks a clear direction, and we should use our reasoning ability to collectively decide what our longest term goal should be, helping us prioritize shorter term goals both as a species and as individuals.
If we want to successfully address challenges of the future, we must use reason. To use reason wholly we must get over the social faux pas of challenging existential beliefs, especially of leaders.
Many are disengaged from changing circumstances beyond their own means of earning a living. I challenge the winners of the ReThink Prize to RePrize in a local contest of disengaged citizens who submit for the best idea to change their local circumstance. Cultivate thinking via $.
Imagine a ball the size of a house rolling in a direction w/ hundreds pushing it. Each has an influence on its final destination. The belief that each human should exert as much force in the direction they want our species to go during their life should be an honored virtue.
