We expect from morality to be a guideline telling us what is the right decision to make in every situation. It's naive to expect that there is always good decision to make and the only thing you need to do is to find it. Often right decision does not exist.

Holy days are often derived from religion that uses God concept to define how to live. God concept isn't needed for this but we need to remember what are important values in our lives therefore we need to have special days to remind us about our values.
